Final Fantasy's Review of
FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN
I liked this movie a lot and had
very little criticism towards it. Of course, the
animation was excellent. There were times when I had to
remind myself that these weren't real people I was
watching.
The story was also very good. It
is reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII's story line, in that
a major part of it is the fact that after any living
thing dies, it returns to gaia. In this movie, the
phantoms act as the enemies as does the General although
the General also wants to destroy the phantoms. There is
also a distinct nexus to the story of Final Fantasy IV
but if I told you what it was it might ruin the story for
you so I won't say much more than that.
As I said before, the animation
was great. It was all even better than I had expected.
Even the skin and clothing of the characters was highly
detailed. You can see hairs, veins, freckles, blemishes
and all kinds of other minute details on the skin. On the
clothing even the textures can be seen. It truly is
amazing. As for relation to the games, the setting and
the animation of it was much like that of Final Fantasy
VIII except it seemed to be a little darker.
My only problem with the movie was
the music. It's not that the music is bad. It's just that
the music doesn't really go with Final Fantasy. They did
after all bring in someone other than Uematsu.
Overall, I think that this movie is very good and I will definitely go see it again. This movie may very well be one of the best movies of the year so go to the movie theater and see it.
